The goals of the Surgery rotation (PGY-1 year) is to advance residents' knowledge in the following domains:
Common surgical problems frequently encountered in the outpatient settings
Indications for essential diagnostic studies used to evaluate patients with surgical conditions
Recognition of surgical emergencies that require urgent attention
Conditions/presentations are appropriate for specialty referrals to the following services:
Breast surgery
General surgery
Ophthalmology
ENT

Rotation schedule is here. Please cross check your FHC Orange schedule for accuracy and consistency. Email Dr. Pilipenko with any questions, concerns, noted discrepancies.
Email subspecialty clinic preceptors/contact person(s) before the first Monday* of the rotation and CC Dr. Pilipenko. Introduce yourself and confirm your schedule. If you learn that a preceptor is away/on vacation or if any site information changes, notify Dr. Pilipenko within 1 business day. Details for each site are available in the Training Sites sub-section.
If any FHC or specialty clinic session is cancelled. Outreach to Ruth Barragan (rb2184@cumc.columbia.edu) and request access to ABFM modules. Utilized the time of the cancelled clinical session to complete: Musculoskeletal KSA, Pain Medicine KSA. Each module takes approximately 4 hours to complete. Submit completion certificates to Dr. Pilipenko before the last day of the rotation.

-Perform all tasks and responsibilities (as assigned by the preceptors/faculty) in a timely manner. This includes pre-reading for the clinic and familiarity with any relevant guidelines.
-Promptly communicate with faculty/preceptor about any situations/circumstances/events that may impact your ability to complete tasks and responsibilities
If calling out sick for any external training sites: email the following: 1. Relevant faculty/preceptor 2. Dr. Pilipenko 3. Diana Suarez. appraising them of your sick day and stating your anticipated return date. Texting/emailing faculty/preceptor only is not an acceptable form for calling out sick.
If calling out sick for FHC: call Farrell Sick line (646-317-2303, by 7:30 am), email farrellsickline@nyp.org and CC Dr. Pilipenko. Include instructions for any patient rescheduling.
Professional behavior, as demonstrated by:

ENT

General ENT clinic (Dr. Regenbogen) is held on the 1st Tuesday of the month and rhinology subspeciality clinic (Dr. Overdevest) will take place on the 2nd and 3rd Tuesday of the month. There is no ENT clinic on the 4th Tuesday of the month.

Each site/faculty will be asked to complete an evaluation of your performance during the rotation. Evaluations will be compiled and included in the MedHub
Contact Dr. Pilipenko and set up a meeting to discuss any rotation-related concerns (as soon as these arise)
Resident will receive a survey to provide feedback on the rotation's experience
