CFCM Speaks Out!
(CFCMSO)
(CFCMSO)
HISTORY:
"CFCM Speaks Out" (CFCMSO) was born in the spring of 2020 in the aftermath of the first COVID wave and George Floyd’s murder. It started as a monthly after-hours virtual space where we could have open conversations about racism and other forms of injustice experienced within and outside of CFCM. Participation from 2020-2022 was optional for faculty and residents.
Some examples of topics we discussed included equitable covid testing, reproductive health justice, upstander training, opportunities to have more intentional training in advocacy, op-ed writing, talking to the media, etc, opportunities to increase patient access to specialists, advocacy around removing use of race-based GFR reporting, etc.
In an effort to increase resident participation and awareness of this forum and also relay that these conversations were as equally important as other medicine topics, CFCMSO folded into Thursday afternoon didactics in July of 2022.
MISSION:
CFCM"CFCM Speaks Out will serve as a catalyst and a visible presence in the department focused on achieving the following primary goals:
